Yoga Rules! Ode to the new mat.

I flung the strap of the shiny, black sheath over my shoulder, and headed home from the store. When I held it upside down, my turquoise prize slid gently to the floor, revealing it was yet swaddled in another clear, sealed wrapper.
I was proudly aware it was new, and, it was mine.
I began practicing Yoga about 35 yrs. ago. Like many Yoga devotees, I became privy to how Yoga can improve one's well-being both physically, and emotionally.
Practicing Yoga creates balance, strength and flexibility in the body, and, the mind. It beautifies, the core, the centre of where life begins. It poises us for work, play, love...life.

The breathing, and timing, of the poses are exquisite.
A relaxation 'pose' at the end of your practice, invites deeper thinking, and thorough enjoyment of the rejuvenating affects.

I open the fresh mat, admitting to it, that my on-again-off-again Yoga practice, has been off for too long. I sit, I breathe, I close my eyes...

    My Kind of Jazz

I've been in and out of Jazz, all of my life.
There's good Jazz, bad Jazz ... all that Jazz.
I see it as a fine composition of making whatever one likes, work for them,
    with them,
filtering down to our loves, desires, and, passions.
Looking loved ones in the eye, and skirting nasty vibes in the most rhythmical way.
You feel when it's right. When you're travelling alone,
or, with the warmth and support of others.
It's not just growing up, it's growing into, life.
Soon, you learn where to go, whom to be with to be mellowed out and happy ...
    I'm going here!

'RENT' the Musical - this Girl's Opinion

'RENT' has been playing at the Lower Ossington Theatre, in Toronto, since the beginning of March. It was supposed to close at the end of April, but has been extended into June. On Saturday night I attended the show, and could totally understand why it's run was held over.

The cast is superb. The vocals are strong, and, emotional, the characters taking us deeply into their lives as they tell their stories. Beautifully entertaining, we laughed with them, and cried with them. They even cried real tears, which I found, very powerful.

Would love to dance with them too! The dance numbers use the whole set and stage, making for exciting movement, and action. The romantic numbers make you want to cuddle, and the, spicy numbers are..well, just that...nice and spicy!

If you haven't seen it yet, and you want to get an awesome reminder of what great, live talent our city has to offer. Don't miss  'RENT'!

"Move 'em on Head 'em up"

Sunny Saturday morning. Dog to walk, Massage Treatments to give, chores to do. But Rowdy Yates, and, Gil Favor on amc's Saturday morning new line-up, beckon to me early.

I used to love watching 'Rawhide' when I was a little girl. I fell in love with Clint Eastwood's cool, 'smirky' innocence. Now, watching them again, I notice how often he's shown with his shirt off. Maybe, that's why they called the show Rawhide!
Rawhide: Six Season Packnow on amazon, with Rowdy, Gil, and the rest of the 'outfit' would definitely be a nice way to spend any evening, or Saturday morning! ... Agreed?

NiagaraThisWeek Article: Bridge app’s ‘Spot’ on

Bento Miso member Tim Sullivan has an app for that?

Want to know the status of a bridge crossings across Niagara? there's (finally) an app for that. It all started with a simple request, explains Tim Sullivan. As president of a web application development company, he's used to hearing about new ideas for apps. So when his father's friend requested as app that would offer a clean and fast wayto see the status of bridges across Niagara, he brushed it off.

"I did some research and found that they already offered a mobile site where you can check on the status of bridges," explained Sullivan, adding he didn't want to duplicate the efforts. It wasn't until later, when he was driving Niagara-on-the-Lake that he revisited the idea - while he was stuck waiting for a bridge.

"I tried to find the site, to check the status of other bridges and I couldn't," he said. "There was a lot of fumbling, finally after... read more

    Don't Be 'SAD'

February blahs and blues, whatever you want to call it, Seasonal Affective
Disorder, or, 'SAD', can rear it's ugly head with many symptoms, that can
sometimes drag into March! Many people experience them during the winter
months when there is less exposure to sunlight. Some signs of SAD are, mood
swings, sluggishness or exhaustion, lack of interest, and weight gain.

Melatonin is a hormone produced in the body. One of it's roles, is to help regulate
sleep. The amount produced depends on how much light there is, in a 24 hour
day. When it's dark, the body naturally produces more Melatonin to induce sleep.
With the decrease of light in the winter, the body maintains a higher level of
melatonin throughout the day, which is why many feel tired, and get moody
during winter days. Your body thinks it should be sleeping!
Some are affected more than others. You can help yourself through this period by
drinking plenty of water, continuing to exercise, and watching your diet. Cutting
down on, sugar, refined carbs, and high fat foods, is a great start.

Getting out into the light slows the body's production of Melatonin. Long walks,
taking in the fresh air, and, leaving sunglasses off to get as much light through as
possible, is rejuvenating, refreshing, and helps to keep the production of
    Melatonin at a manageable level.

Serotonin is another hormone produced by the body. Widely known as the 'feelgood' hormone, or, the body's self made tranquilizer. The more the body
produces, the more relief you can get from your symptoms of SAD. A meal with a
healthy dose of simple carbohydrates, also increases the production of serotonin,
which also leads to a better sleep, and positive attitude. What better way to start
your day! By testing saliva, Medical research has also shown a rise in serotonin
levels in individuals after Massage. There’s another natural way to ease stress,
and leave you with that feel-good feeling!

Oxytocin, also called, the ‘cuddle hormone,’ is another feel good hormone. I think
of it as “feelin’ the love”. Just spending time with friends and/or lovers, releases
this powerful elixir. So, eat, drink, sleep, dance, do the ‘hug thing’... lots ... and feel that positive
hormonal buzz, to get your body, mind and soul, out of the ‘SAD’ness doldrums
    of the winter months.
